Week 20 - Malone can’t get on the bus and counts her blessings
DJ’d at a mates’ wedding at the weekend. She is expecting twins, after years of IVF, she is really happy. Twins are quite common with IVF aren’t they? As IVF is so expensive, perhaps they throw in another embryo to make it better value for money. I can’t imagine having to spend out before you’ve even had a baby. Makes you feel so lucky to be able to do it naturally. The IVF took many many years, and loads of cash. My friend had loads of needles put in her and had bruises all over her, they even went and lived in Brazil for a few years as IVF is cheaper there. They came back here though did IVF for a few months and bingo! So now she’s got 2 buns in the oven! I can’t imagine having 2 at the same time. There’s me moaning about traveling with my baby up to London, but my other friends just had a baby boy with a cleft palette and hole in his heart, they can’t travel very far with him as he needs feeding through a tube. No hanging out drinking hot chocolate all day in Costa’s for them. He’s just had the op now and the hole in his heart is sorted, by the time he’s 6 months he will have had 2 operations the poor little lamb. I felt sorry for them, but then my friends said “we don’t know how you do it day in, day out, on your own”. And I thought well everyone just deals with the hand they get, I can’t imagine dealing with their lot. To be honest this doesn’t feel like hard work anymore, it’s just my new job. I do need a job though, a job that actually pays. Perhaps I could become a professional wedding DJ… I could go into Oxfam, buy up all the 20p 80’s records and just play them, they are the kind of thing people love at weddings right? No actually. My friend who I DJ’d for, asked me to play loads of old breaks and classic house! Why do so many people wear black at weddings these days? It’s not a funeral, um is it? I can understand if you’re a bloke and you have one suit and it’s black, but everyone else wear come on. I wore red. I stood out too much. I should have worn black.
Anyway you may have seen me walking through town, dragging my record box behind me, pushing the pram one handedly all the way home, I tried to get on a bus but it was one of those ones with steps, which you can’t get on if you have pram, Grrrr. Surely buses to the station should be suited to people with luggage and prams etc? Anyway after a long journey back from London dragging my records and pushing the baby up and down hills home to feed, I realized how lucky I am, I have legs, a bonny baby and I live in a lovely town. Even if the buses are shit.
